The River Loisach

The Alpine river, the praises of which have been sung in many songs, flows through three administrative districts. The river Loisach starts its route directly down from the Alps in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, passes through the Werdenfelser Land region veering off past the town of Murnau, and flowing into the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen (the so-called Tölzer Land).

Here at the foot of the Herzogstand / Heimgarten range, in the vicinity of the village of Schlehdorf, the river makes a quick trip through Lake Kochelsee passing back into its bed at the village of Kochel. Downstream it meanders through moorlands passing the village of Benediktbeuern located at the foot of the Benediktenwand escarpment, and the village of Bichl. The river brushes past the district of Weilheim at the village of Schönmühl in the vicinity of the town of Penzberg, flowing in direction of the village of Beuerberg back into the district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen. In the Pupplinger Au floodplain directly downstream from the town of Wolfratshausen, the idyllic river Loisach flows into the river Isar.
